Drug Repurposing, Treatment of microbial infections

Current therapy used in the treatment of microbial infections has number of limitations associated with it. Drug development, being a very long and expensive process, can be substituted by using the existing approved drugs for new indications. Hence, the project is being designed to repurpose some drugs in the treatment of various microbial infections.

The basic idea behind t he evolut ion of cont rolled drug delivery concept is t o alt er t he pharmacokinet ics and pharmacodynamics of bioact ive eit her by modif ying t he molecular st ruct ure and/or physiological paramet ers by an alt ernat ive select ed rout e of administ rat ion or by using novel drug delivery syst ems. A desirable charact erist ic of cont rolled release delivery syst em is t hat durat ion of drug act ion should be dict at ed by t he design propert y or t he inherent kinet ics propert ies of drug molecules.The primary object ives of cont rolled drug delivery are t o ensure saf et y and enhance t he ef f icacy of drug wit h improved pat ient compliance.
