High Speed Packet Capturing and Network Monitoring System

Now a days a lot of application need to receive & send data at very high speed almost at the rate at which the ISP provides. The current packet capturing softwares & operating system is not able to cope up with this speed resulting in loss of packet while capturing.
Currently most of the application used for packet capturing and monitoring used the pcap library. Packet capturing (PCAP) library are available both for Unix based and Windows based operating system in the form of libpcap and winpcap library respectively. It is a C based library having wrappers for other languages like perl, java, python to utilize it. We need to analyze the existing Libpcap library to find its limitations which would enable us to capture packet at high speed.
As a part of this project we propose to explore the possibilities for high speed packet capturing and monitoring, in order to create a tool to capture packets at high speed, we need to reduce the packet processing cost at various level
