Project Details The investigation was undertaken with the objective to assess the genetic diversity in grape germplasm, to establish the genetic relationship among grape cultivars and to develop fingerprint for important commercial varieties. In this study PCR based molecular markers SSR were used to test the genetic variability and genetic relationship. 8 SSR primers were used for 81 grape accessions. The findings are summarized as 8 Primers gave a total of 85 alleles. Primer VVIV15B, VVIP22, VVIP31 and VVIP17A was the most polymorphic with an information index value of 2.133, 2.081, 2.039, and 1.940 respectively, while primer VVB63 was the least polymorphic with the information index value of 1.356. Large numbers of low frequency bands were observed in the analysis. The highest number of alleles was obtained with the primer VVIV15B 15. The lowest number of alleles was obtained with primer VVB63 7.
