Liner and Piston ring set wear reduction

We visited company for the sponsorship of the project and we asked for the project for our academic work. The company had a problem of the liner and piston ring set wear for 8 HP water cooled engine.The company liner used to worn out before warranty period. The wear was 0.40 microns. We started working on project initially we studied the company engine, liner and piston ring set.Then we worked on liner material composition , heat treatment and coating. Afterwards we carried out Pin on Disc(POD) experiment to measure the wear rate. Depending upon results we manufactured three different liners and tested all the liner in the company. Then with the help of CMM and Oil wear debris analysis we measured the amount of wear. The results are quite satisfactory. The wear is reduced by 0.20 microns.
