Before any conclusion, it is mandatory to understand how critically important integrity is for India, especially in context of the most diverse nation of the world. It is true that India is a sub-continent, comprising plenty of small countries (though these are even larger than most of the European countries), constitutionally united, early Post-British.
These small countries of Medieval India, like Chol, Vanga, Paramars, Assam, Awadh, Chendellas, Patliputra, etc. were separate entities and were united/brought under one umbrella either by Mughals, East India Company or diplomatic alignments by the leaders of immediate independent India.
Now question arises, what was the need to unite these into one? Better ruling? Composite Development? Large sovereignty? Yes, these were the basics why great emperors, rulers and then farsighted leaders had united India.
India today has 22 official languages and more than 6000 local dialects. Of the total population of India, 45% are native speakers of Hindi or its dialects. Hindi, is the language of NRIs living different countries too.
For the integrity of India, it is imperative to have own Face Language, which Hindi is, undoubtedly. English is our communication language and connects most of the Indians, in smaller or larger ways, but we can't say it our 'Face language'. If we do so, what will be our own identity?
Usually, speakers of other regional languages (apart from Hindi), see Hindi as a threat to their own identity, culture and rich history. But my questions with my fellow Indians, speaking non-Hindi regional languages, are:-
1. Languages is a method of communication. It should be understandable to masses. Do you have any other languages, other than Hindi, that connects the whole country?
2. As you respect, protect, preserve your culture and languages, Hindi speakers too. But Hindi is the most liberal and customised language in the world, comprising additions of words from other languages. How come Hindi can be a threat to your own culture and regional identity?
3. Non-Hindi speakers are living Hindi native belt. Please ask them whether they have lost their very own culture and identity?
4. If you adopt English as major communication languages, what would be the Face Language of the country? What would happen to identity of the Nation then?
5. You are advocating for regional identity, what about the larger perspective of the nation and representation at international forums?
6. If you want representation in your language, then whyn't dialect based representation as well? What will be the existence of the nation then?
History is the witness of perishableness of smaller dynasties. It is in sheer interest of the nation, INDIA, to have a connecting language, being understood by larger population. Unity and Integrity is the only mean to ensure the identity and development. Hindi is important for the integrity of INDIA.
